Marketed as the XE-1 in Europe and the XE in Japan, the 1975 XE-7 was the first of Minolta's cameras to use their newly developed CLS shutter. A product of a cooperative effort between Leitz and Copal, this new stepless, electronically controlled, vertical movement shutter was more reliable, compact and quieter than previous Copal square shutters. Combined with XE-7's center-weighted aperture-priority metering, resulting images, like the camera itself, easily stand the test of time.
