Sharp when used at f8.
Cons:
Some people will not like the electronic zoom. Soft at open apertures%2c particularly at the wide-angle end.

On APS-C cameras, 28mm is not exactly wide. If you can get past that, it has a nice range otherwise. I use this with a 10mp camera, and find the sharpness pretty good, particularly at the longer end. However, I think it falls under the category of "good enough". If you crave...
