Made popular by its predecessors such as the MZ-50, the MZ-30's "Picture Mode" allows the user to select one of six picture programs with a simple turn of the model dial, to create a distinctive visual effect. Conventional exposure modes, such as Aperture-Priority AE, Shutter-Priority AE and Metered Manual are also available for greater exposure freedom. Other user-friendly features include: a versatile wide-frame autofocus system, an auto pop-up flash with "red-eye" reduction, a large, easy-to-read LCD panel, a bright viewfinder with full-information display and diopter adjustment, a multi-exposure mode, and an exposure memory lock. The MZ-30 accepts a wide selection of SMC Pentax interchangeable lenses and accessories for added convenience and greater creativity.
In addition to the simple-to-use "Picture Mode," the MZ-30 offers two conventional auto-exposure modes (Aperture-Priority AE and Shutter-Priority AE), the Metered Manual mode and the Bulb mode for greater freedom of visual expression. These modes can also be selected with one quick turn of the mode dial.
The MZ-30 allows the user to confirm its operational status in two easy ways. The large LCD panel on the top panel displays vital information using large icons and numbers, while the viewfinder LCD display offers a full range of information, including the selected picture program and an exposure compensation factor. The viewfinder display has automatic brightness control for easy data confirmation in the dark and a diopter adjustment mechanism (-2.0m-1 ~ +1.0 m-1) for near- or far-sighted users.
