Leica M3, introduced in April 1954, represents thirty years of accumulated research and experience. The M3 retains many of the original principles which have consistently proven to be soundly conceived. Amoung these principles are the operation of its focal plane, shutter, rigid camera housing, individual focusing mounts calibrated and matched to each lens thus forming a unit of extreme accuracy and flange-to-flange seating of interchangeable lenses and accessories. The cameras has built-in versatility previously attained only through the use of accessories. Its scales and controls can be read and set while viewing the camera from the top. It has a coupled rangefinder of longer base for greater accuracy, interlocking shutter release, automatic parallax compensation and many other features.
