Congratulations to our Top Pic of the Week, Louisa Wells! Located at "Breather" Room in the Starrett-Lehigh Building, Louisa used her Nikon D800 with a 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens to capture photos from her series, "A Study of Freckles", featuring Devonte of Krush Management

I've been shooting since I was 16. Basically, I had a friend whose mom owned a small portrait business and I wanted to have photos like the ones she took. So, I got a camera and haven't looked back since. I'd say I started focusing on this as a viable career about 4 years ago when I moved to New York.

I love movies so I tend to take photos of lighting and compositions of scenes I love. Otherwise, I like to go back and look at the generation before, see what's been done, see what I could do to put my own spin on it.

This is a simple "Breather" Space on the West Side. I was sure to book it on a clear day when I knew the sun would be in peak condition. The shadows cast on his face are the lines from the windows. I felt it made for some nice composition and a dynamic portrait.  I didn't do much retouching because his skin was pretty great. I love the capability Capture One has; I played with the color tones a bit (obviously since this is Black and White).

Shoot from all different angles, try something you think won't look good. If you don't like something, direct the person -- you are in control of every aspect of the image. Do not stop. It's been said a million times but it's true. I once stopped shooting for three months and I had to relearn what worked for me as a result.

I've started a weekly email newsletter for creatives who want to be real. I share practical tips, stories about how I've tried and failed and just life lessons from those who have come before me. You can head to to sign up!

Thank you, Louisa, for allowing us to share these photos! Check out more of her photography on her website  and social media channels @bylouisawells. Looking for models for your next shoot? Follow @Freckskid  and @Krushmgmt on Instagram.
