Tom Fox- Photo Series of the Week
Tom Fox's captures are our Top Pics of the Week! Pictured below are "Solemn", "Fall in, Stand out", "Mouthful" and "City Stream".
For the past few weeks we have been searching through our #KEHSpotlight hashtag on our social channels to discover the next Top Pic of the Week. This week, however, is slightly different. Congrats to Tom for being our first photo series of the week![caption id="attachment_5779" align="alignright" width="435"] Solemn[/caption]
Tom captured these amazing photos in the busy streets of the Big Apple during the early morning commute in Midtown Manhattan, NYC. He used a Leica M7 35mm film camera accompanied with a Voigtlander Nokton 40mm 1.4. Though, his preference is a manual rangefinder with its lack of shutter vibration for hand-held shooting.[caption id="attachment_5780" align="alignright" width="435"] Fall in, Stand Out[/caption]
I enjoy capturing the everyday life of the people who live and work in New York City. I'm always trying to make people stop and realize that there is so much more to the city than the landmarks, skyscrapers and parks, while trying to show through my photos that the best attraction in the city is its people.
To keep his street photography as "organic and natural feeling as possible", he prefers to use natural light. For long exposures he uses a Silk U212, but for street shots he uses a fast prime lens and a medium to high ISO film stock for better handheld shooting. The exposure in these photos was 1/500 of a second.[caption id="attachment_5781" align="aligncenter" width="453"] Mouthful[/caption]
Here's a quick post production tip from Tom-

I'm still shooting solely on 35mm film so my post production process is a lot different than most current photographers. That being said I like to push my development time a little bit on the longer side to give the image just a little more contrast which works great with the 400 ISO film stock I use.
Thanks Tom, for allowing us to share these authentic photographs of New York City. Tom is a street and documentary photographer. Check out more of his work here: Thomas Fox Photography
