Congratulations to our Top Pic of the Week, Mitchell Kok. Read to learn more about the production of his photos.

The photos were taken on a recent trip to New Zealand. There were a lot of long days of hiking and driving, but definitely worth the effort. All images processed from RAW files in Darktable and/or Lightroom Mobile

How long have you been a photographer & how did you begin your journey?

I took an interest in photography ever since my dad gave me his old compact camera back when I was 8 years old. That camera had only around two megapixels! More recently, I've started taking photography seriously since I bought my Lumix GX7 back in 2016. I draw inspiration from legendary photographers such as Ansel Adams, and from the sheer beauty of natural landscapes.

How would you describe your photographic style?

I focus a lot on composition in my photography. To me, color, while a useful aid, comes in second after a compelling composition. I especially like looking for layers and lines in landscapes.

What is your favorite genre to shoot? What tips do you have for shooting some of your favorite genres?

Landscapes have always been my favorite thing to capture - not just because of the great photo opportunities a good scene offers, but also because the journey to most locations and just being there in person are rewarding enough in themselves.

What advice or tips would you give to other photographers regarding finding their style?

You might see certain images online that inspire you and that you'd like to recreate, and that's great. But, I think it's also important to look around and find other ways to create something unique - looking around for other layers, patterns or lines. One of my favorite ways of creating something special is by looking for ways to make full use of the weather conditions; no two days will have the same weather, so we can capitalize on what makes the day unique!

Do you own multiple cameras? Which is your favorite?

I currently use both Micro Four Thirds (Lumix GX7) and Sony full frame (Sony A7) mirrorless systems. Each has its own charms. I love the interface of Panasonic's cameras, and the Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 is one of my favorite lenses ever. The Sony A7 really shines in low light conditions, and it's a joy being able to use adapted glass at their native fields of view.

What gear are you hoping to add to your collection?

Like many photographers, I often dream of having the latest equipment. But I think part of the creative process of photography is in capturing compelling images with what you have. That said, if I had to choose, I think it would be wonderful to have the image stabilization and auto-focus capabilities of the latest Sony bodies.
