Where did the summer go?!<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of you might be beginning your photographic journey, others wrapping things up with graduation at the end of the school year. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wherever you are in your education, one thing is for sure: your teacher will be giving you a syllabi with a list of equipment you\u2019ll need for class. Here at KEH, we get excited about sharing our knowledge and experience with all levels of photographers, so we have put together a \u201csyllabus\u201d of our own to assist you in planning for your photography courses. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The type of course you&#8217;re taking will determine the type of camera you&#8217;ll need to purchase. If you\u2019re taking a digital photography course: a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/cameras\/digital-cameras.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">camera body<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/lenses.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lenses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/catalogsearch\/result\/?cat=7202&amp;q=memory+cards&amp;multi=true\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">memory card <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be essential to your success. If you\u2019re taking a film photography course, you may be required to have more unique supplies, such as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/cameras\/film-cameras.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">film camera body,<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/lenses.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lenses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/accessories\/film.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">appropriate rolls of film <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your instructor requires. Black and white 35mm roll film is a staple of many photography programs. Be sure to also have the proper lens hood when practicing shooting with different light sources.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-40554 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/goh-rhy-yan-326989-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"566\" height=\"425\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">During a more advanced course, film development and processing may be a part of the curriculum. While your instructor will be specific on the supplies you\u2019ll need, be prepared to have some or all of the following: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Negative sleeves<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Photo paper<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Multi-contrast filters for multi-grade paper<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Developing tank with compatible reels; (there are two distinct types: metal or plastic, check with your teacher)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Loupe &#8211; a small magnification device used to see small details more closely<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Paper Safe &#8211; having your own easy-to-open photo-paper container saves time &amp; reduces mishaps<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-33912 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/bigstock-Developing-6172238.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">You may also want to accessorize your camera equipment! Though all of these items might not be a requirement of your course, you can never be too knowledgeable about gear you may need in the future: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/light-meters-dot-line-8x10-gray-card-2-pack-718752.html?rrec=true\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gray Card<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; allows you to get the proper exposure and\/or color; used with a reflective light meter<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lens Hood\/Shade &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help stand out, get more contrast out of your lens by using a lens hood (also called a lens shade); lens hoods don\u2019t just block out visible streaks of light (a.k.a. lens flare), they also cut down on stray incidental light, the net effect is you get deeper contrast and richer color. They&#8217;re also handy as a bumper on the front of you lens.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Neck strap &#8211; attach a strap to your camera for safe, easy, and comfortable handling<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/accessories\/lens-accessories\/filters.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protective filter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; protects the lens of your camera from the elements<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/catalogsearch\/result\/?q=yellow+filter\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yellow filter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; great addition to your camera bag if you\u2019re shooting in black and white.
