Specifically, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/ricoh-k-3-23-4-megapixel-digital-slr-camera-body-only-black.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">K-3<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/pentax-k-3-ii-black-digital-camera-body-24-35-m-p-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">and II<\/a>) and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/pentax-k-1-digital-slr-camera-body-black-34-4-m-p-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> K-1<\/a> (and II). I really like these cameras and believe they offer phenomenal bang for your buck, but the bodies are only a part of the equation. I have owned many and still own mirrorless bodies. Great cameras, but affordable, high-quality glass is not abundant usually. With Pentax that is not the case. While 3rd party glass is not as abundant for Pentax, as with the two big Pentax lenses have been around since the stone age and all work on just about all Pentax cameras film or digital. I could devote an entire post to legacy K and M42 manual focus lenses, but I will focus on AF lenses here. Some newer. Some Pentax. Some 3rd party. Some current. Some out of production. All can be had for a reasonable price fairly easily through local camera shops and common online camera retailers. Lets go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Nifty 50 for less than $150: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/pentax-50mm-f-1-7-smc-f-k-mount-autofocus-lens-49.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Pentax SMC F 50mm f\/1.7<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-41547 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/241152-2137100_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pros:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Small and light.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Quick to focus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Acceptably sharp wide open. Very sharp closed down.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colors and Bokeh so lovely you will apologize to the lens for pixel peeping.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Full frame<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cons:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not a lens to impress aesthetically. It&#8217;s there to get the job done.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My copy is rough around the edges and makes a bit of noise.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">No longer in production, so used purchase only.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My first go around with Pentax I \u201cupgraded\u201d from this lens to a Sigma DG EX 50mm f\/1.4. The Sigma was very nice, but I cannot say it produced images that were any better and did not find that extra brightness made a noticeable difference in low light or subject isolation day to day. Plus, the SMC was smaller lighter and focused more accurately in my experience. For my second\u00a0 go around with Pentax I reached for this lens again .<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHskCGvFto\">Sample gallery link.<\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>High-end Macro for not high-end money: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/pentax-21910-100-mm-f-2-8-macro-lens-for-pentax-kaf2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Pentax 100mm f\/2.8 WR Macro<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-41548 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Pentax-100mm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"140\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pros:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Quite the looker and built like a tank.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stellar image quality. My first runner-up for Pixie dust lens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sharp everywhere like all good macros are.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Compact given the spec.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Water-resistant to go along with the water-resistant Pentax bodies. I have used this in the rain without a concern and no ill effects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Very flexible. Great for macro shots, all-weather walkabout, and portraits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Full frame.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Swift to focus when near its intended focus distance.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Reasonably priced. You can find them used for around $250 in great condition. New they run just over $500 or so.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cons:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">No focus limiter, so it can take a while between normal and macro focus distances on its own.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Love this lens. One of the first lenses to pick up when you buy a Pentax camera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHskoAYV8m\">Sample gallery href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/tamron-28-75mm-f-2-8-sp-aspherical-ld-if-macro-xr-di-a09-autofocus-lens-for-pentax-k-mount-67-684587.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Tamron 28-75mm F\/2.8 SP Aspherical LD IF Macro XR DI<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-41549 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tamron-28-75mm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"197\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pros:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While not available new, they can be purchased for around $250 or so used.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not a true macro, but gets closer than I expected.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Great image quality and colors at any focal length.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A solid performer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cons:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Build quality could be better.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A great noreferrer\"><u>Tamron 70-200mm F\/2.8 DI LD IF SP<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-41553 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tamron-70-200mm-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"199\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Pros:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">No longer produced, but can be found for around $400 or so used.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Everything I said about the 28-75mm above in 70-200mm strength.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cons:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">AF\/MF clutch on lens still requires using on body AF\/MF switch.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A great lens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHsknvEqi7\">Sample gallery link.<\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Nice little oddity: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/pentax-smc-p-da-40mm-f2-8-limited-lens.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Pentax 40mm F\/2.8 SMC DA Limited<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-41551 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Pentax-40mm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"156\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pros:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The most pancake of pancake lenses I have ever seen with an aperture ring.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This lens is spec\u2019d for APS-C, but works just fine with full frame.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Great image quality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is a new, improved red ring version, but I have been using the original green ring version and see no reason to upgrade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Around $200 used.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cons:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not one I can think of!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stays on a camera nearly at all times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHsmtpcPF9\">Sample image gallery<\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bonus round: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keh.com\/shop\/pentax-smc-p-fa-77mm-f1-8-telephoto-lens.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Pentax 77mm F\/1.8 SMC FA Limited<\/u><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-41552 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/keh.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/q=80,fit=scale-down,format=auto\/expert-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Pentax-77mm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"156\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Note: This lens deviates from the other value-centric lenses on this list in price. I do consider it a good deal in a way.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pros:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Amazing build quality and aesthetics. There are lenses that cost far more that are built no better.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is my favorite Pixie dust lens ever. It just makes everything look wonderful. Sharpness, colors, bokeh, and contrast are all there.
