The Olympus Zuiko 35mm f\/2<\/a> is a fully manual lens made for their own OM-mount film cameras<\/a>. By viewer request, we’ve now included an Olympus lens as the next entry in our legacy lens video project where we take vintage lenses that are often much more affordable than the newest models and see what they look like in a new light on video.<\/p>\n

Truth be told, I’m not entirely sure that I’ve gotten the hang of how to shoot compelling footage with a 35mm lens. It’s somewhere in between a wide-angle and a normal view, without any distortion or background compression. For the most part, it just gives you a view of how things look to your human eyes. It’s great for documentary work and setting the scene in a realistic way. Then again, you didn’t come here to hear about whether I like shooting at a 35mm focal length, did you? You came to hear about the lens pictured above.<\/p>\n

Photographers who have used an Olympus OM-mount lens<\/a> can tell you that they’re compact, built like tanks and provide great image quality. The tiny size and build quality are really apparent here and allow the lens to fit very neatly on a mirrorless camera or DSLR.<\/p>\n

The focus ring is topped with rubber pyramids and rotates smoothly, with purpose. The distance marks on the top side read clearly and line up to an aperture chart to show you how much of an area will be in focus based on your depth of field.<\/p>\n

It may not be quite as impressive visually as a Sigma ART 35mm f\/1.2<\/a> or even their ART f\/1.4<\/a> but the Olympus Zuiko is a wonderful walkaround lens that won’t put any excess strain on your arms, gimbal or pocketbook.<\/p>\n
