Description

The Fujifilm X100S is a premium compact digital camera featuring an APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and loaded with features, making it the perfect fixed lens camera to keep in your pocket.

This Fujifilm X100S is equipped with a unique Hybrid Viewfinder, which balances optical and electronic viewing, allowing accurate manual focusing like you would experience in a classic rangefinder while also enabling you to overlay exposure and camera settings on-screen.

The camera was built to be used, with intuitive classic dials for exposure compensation and shutter speeds, an on-lens aperture ring and a precision-milled focusing ring. The rear of the body was laid out with quick access to the common features you demand.

Equipped with a fast and compact 23mm f/2 lens (35mm equivalent), the Fujifilm X100S was built to give remarkable edge-to-edge sharpness and clarity. Designed with a double-sided aspherical lens and eight elements treated with the same coating (EBC) used for Fujinon broadcasting video lenses, the Fujifilm X100S gives extremely clear images with reduced ghosting and flare while the 9-blade aperture gives pleasingly beautiful bokeh. The EXR Processor II equipped X-Trans sensor increases the abilities of the X100S by allowing an extended ISO range from 100 up to 25600 for continued fast performance at 6fps in low light conditions.

Get creative with multiple-exposures or the Fujifilm X100S's eight advanced filters, including: high key, low key, soft focus, toy camera, miniature, pop color, dynamic tone and partial color (color selective). Continue your creative flow by simulating some of your favorite film stocks like, Provia, Velvia, Astia, and so much more.

Finally, flip the Fujifilm X100S into video mode and unleash full HD 1920x1080 recording at 60fps. And you can still use the film simulation modes to let your creative side shine. Using the 3x zoom, increase the range of the camera with a 35mm equivalent 105mm lens.

Staff Review

As a DSLR user, coming to the Fuji X100S was a jarring experience at first. It took some time for me to adjust to the smaller size of the camera and the unique Hybrid Viewfinder. For a good piece of time, I was frustrated by the parallax with the Optical Viewfinder until I found the button for the viewfinder modes. I strongly advise any DSLR user to seriously look at the manual before shooting with this camera. Typically button configurations across digital cameras aren't too dissimilar that you can't just pick it up and figure it out on the fly, but there's definitely a difference with the rangefinder-styled Fuji X100S.

Some might prefer the Optical Viewfinder with Corrected AF Frame enabled, but the Electronic Viewfinder quickly became my new best friend on this camera. I loved being able to essentially preview my photo as I adjusted settings with the retro-style dials. If your chimping (checking every photo in the LCD) is chronic, the EVF should help treat the habit.

The color reproduction was stunning and vibrant without any enhancements, both in the EVF and after taking the shot. Shooting at night was a breeze with the wide f/2 lens and I had fun shooting dark alleyway shots in black and white with the Film Simulation features. It produces some beautiful grain that definitely takes you back to film days. There are 11 modes and are a vast improvement over the Film Simulation modes in past Fuji cameras.

It is possible to shoot in RAW, but the JPGs are such high quality that it's almost unnecessary to shoot in RAW unless you're looking to correct the white balance of your images. Otherwise, at 16-megapixels, the JPGs will suffice for the most digital applications (i.e. websites, online photo galleries, social media, etc.) I can see bloggers getting a lot out of this camera, especially with the fixed 23mm f/2 wide-angle lens. It produces some gorgeous, creamy bokeh when shooting detail. There is a video mode, but it drains the battery quickly.

Overall, this is a great camera for enthusiasts, casual street photographers, and anyone who is looking for a quality digital camera light enough to just grab-and-go. - Arielle A.
