Designed for the Leica R System, the Leica 180mm f/2.8 APO Elmarit-R ROM (manufactured 2004-2009) is a telephoto lens with outstanding build and image quality.  This ultra-fast high-performance lens is relatively compact and easy to use.  The mechanical construction is solid metal and first rate by any standard.

Not just a fast telephoto, the lens is designed to correct for apochromatic residual errors.  It is distinguished by the virtual absence of coma, astigmatism and field curvature.  Quite sharp wide open and with virtually insignificant vignetting, the Leica 180mm f/2.8 APO Elmarit-R ROM gets tack sharp at f/4 and is entirely free of artificial vignetting.

The Leica 180mm f/2.8 APO Elmarit-R ROM is equipped with internal focusing, so only the interior elements of the lens move without changing the overall length.  Close focusing is 1.5m (5ft) unaugmented.  The convenient built-in lens hood has also has a resilient rubber edge guard, allowing you to rest the lens on surfaces without scratching the barrel.  The lens barrel is designed to work with the optional Leica STA-1 (14636) rotating tripod collar.  The 180mm f/2.8 APO Elmarit-R ROM can also be used to good effect with Leica APO tele-extenders when needed.  Leica M users can enjoy this premium optic with the addition of the Leica R-Adapter M (an Electronic Visoflex viewfinder is also useful).
