The Lomography Zenit 85mm F/2.2 Petzval is a new version (or more accurately a re-invention) of the a famous antique portrait lens from Vienna, Austria circa 1840.  The Petzval produces unique images characteristically having a sharp crisp central area with very distinctive swirly bokeh and progressive vignetting towards the non-focused areas.  Instead of a conventional aperture diaphragm, the Petval has a slot for interchangeable aperture plates.  Using a drop-in aperture plate not only changes how much light and depth of field is available, it allows custom aperture shapes; when using non circular apertures, cones of defocused light combine with unusual results.
