Canon Battery Grip BG-E16 for Canon 7D Mark II

The Canon Battery Grip BG-E16 is Vertical Grip designed specifically for the Canon 7D Mark II DSLR to enhance runtime and capabilities.  The BG-E16 has an extra set of the main camera controls that allows shooting vertical images from a more stable stance while also counterbalancing larger lenses.  The BG-E16 also allows use of additional power sources for extended run times without interuptions to shooting.

Using the BGM-E16L Li-ion Battery Holder adds power from one or two LP-E6 or LP-E6N batteries.  Using the BGM-E16A AA Battery Holder adds power from six AA size batteries.  The ubiquitous nature of AA batteries and vast range of charging options such as solar chargers makes this capability most valued when shooting in the wild.  The grip is also designed for use with an ACK-E6 AC adapter and DC Coupler via a dedicated opening (and cover) for cord clearance.

The BG-E16 has a full extra set of controls oriented for vertical shooting.  The grip features it's own: shutter release button (with button on/off switch), AF Point selection button, AE/FE lock button, front control dial, rear control dial, AF button, and multi-select stick.  The control orientation allows the photographer to take vertical images with their right arm and hand in a more natural comfortable position (not overhand or underhand).

The extra mass of the BG-E16 helps resist vibration while also shifting the camera & lens combination center of balance closer to the photographer thus making it easier to hold still.  Photographers with larger hands will also find the additional grip area a welcome improvement to camera body ergonomics.

The BG-E16 is easy to add or remove.  All you have to do is remove battery door ) and screw the grip into the camera's tripod socket (stow the detached battery door conveniently in it's dedicated space on the BG-E16's power connection post to keep it from getting lost).
