The EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM is premium ultra-compact telephoto zoom lens with Image Stabilization and Canon's novel space saving Diffractive Optics technology. The Green Stripe on the barrel denotes the lens contains a advanced DO (Diffractive Optics) component which combines two precisely matched diffractive grating elements for a double benefit: reduced size and boosted image quality thanks to superior cancellation of optical aberrations. Compared to a conventional lens of similar quality and capabilities the EF 70-300mm DO is noticeably shorter looking more like a wide angle zoom than the strong telephoto it actually is; it's great choice for a premium travel lens as well as high quality photojournalism and documentary photography where an unobtrusive yet powerful lens is desired.

Image Stabilizer Technology provides up to three stops of "shake" correction, and the "Mode 2" option stabilizes images while panning with a moving subject. Super fast and silent autofocus is delivered by a ring-type USM (UltraSonic Motor) in a rear focus arrangement with full time manual focus override, a non-rotating front element, and a 4.6 feet minimum focus distance. A zoom lock switch is also provided for more convenience when carrying .
