Leica Elmarit-M 21mm f/2.8 is a compact, extreme wide-angle lens producing outstanding contrast and detail rendition at full aperture. The pro-verbial Leica image quality is preserved, even in the close-up range. Distortion is minimal and negligible in photographic application. The lens is free of artificial vignetting at f/5.6. The combined qualities of the lens is suitable for dramatic effects with monumental foregrounds and strongly receding backgrounds with distant horizons. Since a relatively substantial depth-of-field is already achieved with a slightly stopped-down aperture, sharp dramatic pictures are possible during live reportage photography. The 21mm has been updated with the 6-bit coding, thus allowing the digital M camera to read and store its information optically and to identify which lens is being utilized.
