Description

DETAILS

The Leica M9 is a full frame 35mm format digital rangefinder body from arguably the worlds most legendary camera and lens maker.

The M9's 18 MegaPixel CCD retains more detail than most sensors because it does not employ an anti-aliasing filter.  Unlike the M8, the M9 sensor does have an IR (infrared) filter.  The sensor was also designed with micro lenses near the edges that angle towards the center for more even lens illumination.  Additional optimization for specific lenes can be achieved with 6-bit coded lenses or via camera menu.  Image quality is very good thanks in part to new analog to digital conversion processing that is 14-Bit for additional tonal range, smoother gradations, and more colors.

The .68 magnification range-finding viewfinder has automatic parallax compensation and automatic bright-line frame-lines for six focal lengths: 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 90mm, and 135mm, as well as a frame preview lever.  Leica's tradition of building the worlds's most solid cameras continues: the build quality on the M9 is first class thanks in part to a milled brass top and bottom plates, solid magnesium case, and durable grip surface.

The M9 was originally released in late 2009. In 2011 an upgraded Leica M9P version was introduced.  M9P changes consist of a scratch-resistant sapphire glass covering over the LCD display, the addition of traditional MP style Leica labeling in cursive script on the camera top plate, and a camera front face that lacks any Leica logo or lettering identification.
