Nikkor-H.C 5cm f/2: Nippon Kogaku's M39 standard prime in chrome.
The Nikkor-H.C 5cm f/2 from Nippon Kogaku Japan is a 50mm prime built for the M39 Leica screw mount, finished in chrome with a 40.5mm filter thread. The H.C designation stands for Heavily Coated, indicating that the optical elements received coating treatment to improve transmission and reduce the light scatter common in uncoated glass of the era. At f/2, there is real light-gathering capability here for a lens of this lineage.
For photographers who shoot on Leica screw-mount rangefinders natively, this lens slots in without adaptation. For those running M39 glass on mirrorless systems via adapter, the 50mm focal length lands at a natural field of view for street and documentary work. The chrome finish and Nippon Kogaku provenance make this a lens that collectors and working photographers both take seriously. If you want a Japanese-made 50mm with genuine Heavily Coated optics and M39 compatibility, this is a direct answer to that search.
Who It's For
Rangefinder shooters with Leica screw-mount bodies get a native-fit 50mm at f/2 with Heavily Coated optics from Nippon Kogaku Japan. Mirrorless photographers who adapt M39 glass will find the 50mm focal length well-suited to street and documentary shooting. Collectors drawn to chrome-finish Nippon Kogaku glass have a genuine example here with the H.C optical designation and 40.5mm filter thread. Film photographers prioritizing coated lenses over bare uncoated glass get a historically significant step up in optical treatment.
