Description

DETAILS

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED N is a professional grade wide angle zoom lens with a fast constant aperture. It's designed to cover FX format sensors on Nikon Digital SLR cameras and it's useable on some late model Nikon 35mm film cameras (bodies possessing built-in aperture controls). While optimize for the FX image area, because of it's high end capabilities and performance, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED N is also very popular for use on DX format Nikon DSLR cameras and is frequently chosen over competing DX format lenses.

The 24mm to 70mm zoom range starts comfortably inside wide angle territory and ramps into the start of the telephoto/portrait domain. In between those zoom extremes you'll find a continuum of focal lengths well suited for capturing the wide variety of life moments. On an FX format when set to 24mm the angle of view is 84 degrees (diagonally), that's an impressive 10 degrees wider than 28mm focal length lenses. You might not always need that extra field of view but when you can't back up any farther it's a nice option to have without having to carry or mount another lens. When used cropped on a DX format body the 24-70mm has a 61 degree angle of view perfect for group pictures without unflattering perspective distortion. The 70mm focal length becomes even better at flattering portraiture when cropped on a DX camera body.

The f/2.8 maximum aperture let's in a lot of light and stays constant through the entire zoom range; it's a really nice convenience. That increased aperture size makes for a brighter viewfinder, enables use of faster shutter speeds shots in low light, and allows for more background blur.

At the same time that the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED N is practical and convenient it's also a good sharp optic able to deliver professional result. There's no shortage of high quality glass carefully assembled in this design. The optical formulation consists of 15 lens elements in 11 groups and includes 3 ED (Extra Low Dispersion) elements, 3 aspherical elements, a state of the art N (Nano Crystal Coat) coated element, as well as Nikon SIC (Super Integrated Coating) anti-reflective multi-coating everywhere else. All the components are expertly engineered to work together to produce really great images throughout the broad aperture and focal length range. It's a sharp contrasty lens very much continuing Nikon's tradition of excellence.

The focusing is quite fast, responsive, and quiet thanks to a Nikon AF-S SWM (Silent Wave Motor) which also features full time manual focus priority override when lens focus selector is set to M/A . The minimum focus distance is 1.2 feet.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED N is a perfect for any Nikon shooter looking for a high end general purpose lens capable of professional level results. It's a superb choice for all sorts of situations whether it's travel, nature, sports, action, weddings, social events, or any type of photography.

Available accessories include the HB-40 lens hood, CL-M3 Flexible Lens Pouch case, and 77mm filters.
