Nikon S3 Limited Edition 35mm Rangefinder Camera Body, Millennium Chrome
$0.00-$0.00
The Nikon S3 Year 2000 Millenium Model (Y2K) is the replica of Nikon S3 rangefinder camera released in March 1958. Produced in limited quantity to commemorate the year 2000, approximately 8,000 units were sold. The Y2K design was made almost identical to the original S3 with the exception of a few minor details to accommodate present camera operating practices. Features like film sensitivity indicated as "ASA" on the original Nikon S3 is now indicated as "ISO" on the Y2K model. Exposure indication changed from "20" to "24". Minor changes are found on the film rewind crank, film rewind knob, camera back pressure plate, accessory shoe, shutter dail sync indicator color and lens cap.
The Nikon S3 Y2K rangefinder features the world's first life-size 1:1 viewfinder for 35mm focal length lens. It precisely reproduced not only the 35mm life-size viewfinder, but also the focal length adjusting gear unit arranged in the upper right of the body, and the quiet and soft shutter releasing sound called “whispering shutter”. The whispering shutter design, in those days, was achieved by cloth focal-plane shutter curtains.
