The Sony Cyber-Shot RX10 is a premium all-in one with camera that covers the expanse between larger interchangeable lens outfits and less capable compact cameras.  This is an exemplary bridge camera that spans it's space with a very notable Carl Zeiss f/2.8 24-200m equivalent lens, a 20.9MP sensor, extensive options, and admirable fit & finish.

Interchangeable lens cameras offer lots of possibilities but not everyone needs or wants to deal with carrying or switching to a separate lens.  Compact cameras while convenient tend lack a combination of quality magnification, brightness, or even sturdiness.&nsbp; The RX10's responds with a serious 8.3x optical zoom illuminating a better than average sensor in a weather resistant ergonomic housing with ample controls, great screens, and good amenities for video.  The bright Zeiss Vario-Sonnar f/2.8 8.8-73mm goes from wide-angle well into telephoto territory without any reduction in brightness and features the legendary german company's renowned T* anti-reflective coating expertise.  The RX10's 1-inch (13.2 x 8.8mm) BSI-CMOS sensor is sensitive and relatively large compared to most compacts.  The RX10's SLR styled body has a comfortable well textured grip is dust and moisture sealed and features a bright OLED viewfinder and 3" tilting LCD screen.  The lens mounted aperture control even has switch for allows stepless adjustments for videography and much like an SLR, the lens accepts 62mm filters or a bayonet lens hood.

The RX10's unique feature set has been popular, so much that Sony has since released a very similar RX10II with faster processing and upgraded video resolution.
