Designed for high-quality still image and video capture while being compact and lightweight, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens features the AF (AutoFocus), optics, and IS (Image Stabilization) necessary for shooting photos and video in any number of situations.

Unlike previous lenses in it's class, this lens use a new STM (STepping Motor) and focus mechanism that perfectly complements the Movie Servo AF feature found on select EOS cameras.  The STM system delivers high precision autofocus not just quickly but with non distracting ultra silent operation.  Still photography also benefits from the lenses high-speed CPU and an optimized AF algorithm.  Full-time manual focus is available in AF mode and the front element does not rotate during focus, perfect for use with polarizing filters

For brilliant image quality the lens uses a compact six-group zoom system that includes a high-precision aspheric element to reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range; optimized lens coatings also help ensure exceptional color balance while minimizing ghosting or flare.  Rounding out the optical design is a 7-blade circular aperture for pleasingly smooth backgrounds and focus transitions.

The lens' Optical Image Stabilizer system helps retain sharpness when shooting handheld.  The Image Stabilizer allows use of shutter speeds up to 4 stops slower than would otherwise be practical.  The IS system allows the lens to be more useful in lower lighting situations without substantially more glass; this helps keep the lens compact, light, & affordable.  Conveniently sized and highly versatile, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is an ideal lens to carry anywhere.
