The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi is an entry level digital SLR camera.  It's popular among photography students and enthusiasts due to it's LiveView capabilities, large high quality APS-C sized sensor with 12 megapixels of resolution, compatibility with the extensive system of Canon EF/EF-S lenses, and very affordable pricing.  Introduced in early 2008 the EOS Rebel XSi is the fourth generation of Canon Digital Rebel cameras. The Rebel XSi is major design update resulting in several feature additions and functionality refinements over previous models in the line.

Compared to it's predecessor the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi the XSi offers: LiveView (allows composition with images directly from the sensor) on a large 3inch monitor, a Canon DIGIC III image processor, 14bit RAW images for broader tonal range options, a 4percent Spot metering pattern, faster shooting (3.5fps), a larger .jpg shot buffer, a continuous shooting self timer option, high viewfinder magnification,and a SD/SDHC (Secure Digital/High Capacity) card slot instead of a CF card compatibility

The EOS Rebel XSi was also marketed as the Canon EOS Kiss Digital X2 in Japan and as the Canon EOS 450D in Asia, Europe, and Oceania.  Later the same year Canon released a lower cost 10 megapixel sibling: the Digital Rebel XS.  Also available in Silver.  In 2009 Canon released a follow-up: the EOS Rebel T1i
