The Leica M (Type 240) is a full frame rangefinder mirrorless camera compatible with Leica's legendary M lenses. Inside the metal chassis a Full-Frame 35mm size 24 megapixel sensor waiting for chosen moments. A quiet shutter does it's part not to intrude. The 0.68x magnification rangefinder with automatically changing frame lines allows excellent situational awareness for fast framing and focus in skilled hands. On the back a 3-inch 920,000 dot screen allows both playback of images made with the flexibility of through the lens viewing when needed. The Leica M camera is an exquisite tool that inherits highly refined form and function while adding new capabilities; it's an exemplary camera for documenting the world.

The Leica M is one of the most innovative and versatile M-System cameras ever created. It unites decades of experience in rangefinder technology with groundbreaking digital technologies. The M 240 features an all new high-resolution full-format CMOS sensor feeding a high-performance processor to deliver outstanding imaging results. With Live View, video, and new additional focusing methods, it's the M for photographers wanting a modern digital option.

The new Leica M is built without compromise. Its top and base plates are machined from solid brass, and its full-metal body is manufactured in one piece from high-strength magnesium alloy. Specially designed rubber seals protect the camera body against dust and water spray. The glass covering plate on the high-resolution monitor is manufactured from tough and scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla glass. All this makes the Leica M particularly resilient and helps ensure a long and reliable working life.

The M Typ 240 was originally introduced in late 2012 and has since become a hugely successful model. In the summer of 2014 Leica introduced a slightly upgraded version the Leica M-P Typ 240 which offers a larger buffer, a sapphire screen covering, and omits the front Red Dot Leica logo. Also available in Silver/Chrome.
