The Leica SL is a professional 24 MP mirrorless camera that features a 4.4 MP electronic viewfinder, electronic shutter, Maestro II series high-performance processor, and 4k video capability.

Machined from a single block of solid aluminum, the rugged dust and moisture resistant Leica SL was designed with fewer external controls.  A highly sophisticated yet simple to use menu system brings common functions to the forefront.  Along with the favorites menu, four buttons and two function buttons on the back panel are fully programmable.  Aperture and shutter each have their own dial for full control of your scene.

The SL's ultra-high resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) boasts a latency time below the threshold of perception and gives you complete control over every picture you take.  When used in challenging lighting situations, the viewfinder can be electronically brightened to ensure you do not miss your shot.

Thanks to the Maestro II series high-performance processor, the Leica SL has exceptional speed.  With a 2 GB buffer, full 24 MP images can be captured at 11 frames per second and 4K video with a frame rate of 30 frames per second.  Video is output with HDMI 1.4 allowing for 10-bit, 4:2:2 format with 4K cine resolution.  For maximum image sharpness, the Leica SL intentionally does without a low-pass filter resulting in an impressive dynamic range, excellent contrast rendition, and exceptional sharpness.  Expect superior quality within a sensitivity range of ISO 50 to 50000.

The Leica SL utilizes Depth From Defocus (DFD) technology.  The camera "hunts for focus" less as the DFD enables the camera to determine the focusing point by a comparison of just two images with different depths of field.  Autofocus on the SL is one of the fastest professional systems available.  The Leica SL has up to 529 autofocusing segments and you can focus from infinity to near in a mere 110 milliseconds.  The near silent telephoto zoom features double internal focusing (DSD), allowing two lens elements move towards each other and reduce time to focus.  Easily switch from autofocus to manual by using the ring on the lens.

The L-Bayonet allows mounting of SL and TL lenses without an adapter.  With the appropriate adapter in place, S, M and R systems are easily mounted and used with the Leica SL, opening up the entire world of Leica glass.
