The SC-17 coiled cord enables speedlights to be used up to one and one-half meters from the camera, with automatic shutter speed and ready-light indication in the viewfinder, just as if the flash unit were mounted directly on the camera. It is also necessary when using the SB-50DX, SB-23, SB-22s, SB-22, SB-21B, SB-20 or SB-15 as a master flash unit, or when using the SB-11, SB-14 and SB-140 as a master flash unit with TTL Remote Cord SC-23, because none of these units have a TTL multiple terminal. The SC-17 has two TTL multiple flash photography terminals, for connecting slave flash units via TTL Multi-Flash Sync Cord SC-18 or SC-19.
