The Sony DT 16-50mm f/2.8 (Sony part# SAL1650) is a fast aperture, fast focusing, standard zoom lens for Sony Alpha A Mount APS-C format digital SLT cameras.  The lens is an extremely versatile level optic that offers superior performance compared to mid-tier and entry level lenses.

The 16-50mm focal length range (equivalent to a 35mm format 24-75mm) offers serious wide-angle capabilities with up to an 83° angle of view and zooms all the way into a short portrait focal length with a 32° angle of view.  The f/2.8 maximum aperture is constant throughout full the zoom range, making shots in challenging available lighting conditions possible, and allowing significant background blur.  Bright f/2.8 aperture zooms like this are the go-to general purpose choice of most working professional photographers.  Optically the lens is a very well executed 13 group 16 element (including 3 ED and 2 Aspherical elements) design that effectively suppresses aberrations and produces superb contrast and sharpness.  The focus system is powered by a responsive SuperSonic-Wave Motor (SSM) that delivers precision autofocus with the speed one needs for keeping up with fast paced action.  It's one of the very best lens choices for Sony anyone using a (non-E) Sony APS-C Alpha camera.
