The EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM is a high-end wide angle lens for Canon EOS Cameras.&nsbsp; It's incredibly sharp and the most advanced 35mm focal length lens Canon has ever made.  It's the replacement for the venerable EF 35mm f/1.4L USM.  The 35mm focal length is very popular as a general purpose focal length that captures a wide field without the distractions of any distortion. Often replacing a 50mm 'standard lens', a 35mm offers additional framing freedom and the EF 35mm f/1.4L II's sharpness allows the photographer additional cropping latitude.

The EF 35mm f/1.4 L II is Canon's first lens to utilize Canon's proprietary Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics (BR Optics).  BR Optics use a new organic optical material with unique anomalous dispersion characteristics that refracts blue light more than other current optical technologies such as UD glass, Super UD glass and Fluorite.  When grouped between convex and concave lens elements made from conventional optical glass materials, BR Optics control color fringing and axial chromatic aberration at new levels.  The results are sharper images with tremendous contrast and excellent color fidelity.

In addition to the new BR optics, the EF 35mm f/1.4 L II uses two aspherical elements and one UD glass element in a 14 element, 11 group optical formula and Canon's proprietary Sub-Wavelength Structure Coating (SWC) is applied to the rear surface of the first and second aspheric lens elements to further combat flare and ghosting caused by light rays entering the lens at a large angle of incidence.  The lens also features a minimum focusing distance of just 0.28m (11in) for an increased maximum magnification of 0.21x - ideal for capturing close-up subjects.  Autofocus is quick and quiet thanks to a rear-focus optical design and a Ring type USM (UltraSonic Motor), and full-time manual focus override is also available.

The 35mm F/1.4 L II is one of the very best lenses available in the EF Mount, it's an extremely good choice in a very practical focal length.  Photographers using ultra-high resolution Digital SLR cameras like the Canon 5DS and 5DSR will find it able to more fully realize the camera sensor's full potential.
