The Canon 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS Macro USM is a versatile, mid level lens packed with features. It comes housed in a lightweight yet compact plastic body. It covers a wide range of focal lengths, from wide angle to telephoto, making it great for an all purpose lens. The optical design features 16 elements in 12 groups including one Aspherical element and yields good optical performance especially considering the price and zoom range. Depending on what focal length you are set to the maximum aperture varies from f/3.5 to f/5.6 and decent background is possible when used properly. In many ways a landmark lens it's Canon's first full frame wide angle zoom to feature Canon's Optical Image Stabilization technology (abbreviated 'IS'); IS detects and compensates for camera shake in real time, reducing loss of sharpness caused by camera shake (and somewhat allowing use of a slower effective shutter speed than would normally be possible). The lens also features internal focus with full time manual focus override via Canon's USM (Ultra Sonic Motor) drive for fast quiet focusing. With IS and USM your pictures can be steadier and you won't be a noise distraction when shooting.
