The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is a general purpose standard zoom lens for Canon EOS DSLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors.  It's a perfect initial lens for Canon EOS Rebel and it works equally well on EOS 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 70D, 80D, 77D, 7D, & 7DII bodies.  The lens notably features a Canon Optical IS ('Image Stabilizer') system while retaining the compactness and lightness of previous models.

With its versatile 18-55mm focal range and excellent optics, this lens makes it easy to create sharp, clear photos framed the way you want.  Remarkably light and compact, it's an ideal general purpose walk around lens.  It even captures fantastic close-up shots at 0.25m (0.82ft) from your subject.  The 18-55mm zoom range provides a wide angle 74°20' view at the 18mm focal length setting and portrait ready 27°50' angle of view at the 55mm focal length setting (diagonally).

The 18-55mm IS optical design consists of 11 elements in 9 groups and includes an aspherical lens element to maximize correction of aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range and a circular aperture for pleasantly rendered out-of-focus backgrounds.  The built-in image stabilization technology allows sharper hand-held shots at slower shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible (up 4 stops slower i.e. up to 16 times longer a duration).  The lens expands picture-taking possibilities whenever slower shutter speeds might be needed; it's a better choice for shooting in natural light without flash than previous Canon 18-55mm models without 'IS'.
