JVC Everio GZ-HD3U: HD Camcorder With a 60GB Hard Drive
The GZ-HD3U pairs HD video recording with an onboard 60GB hard disk drive, doing away with tape media and swappable cards as your primary recording medium. That drive-based storage means long stretches of shooting without stopping to change media, a real advantage when you're documenting an event start to finish or trying to stay locked on a moment as it unfolds.
Built in the established camcorder form factor, the GZ-HD3U in black keeps controls where a shooter expects them, favoring a familiar handheld shooting posture over a compact or hybrid design. That matters for anyone who shoots handheld for extended periods and wants a body that feels like a dedicated video tool than a repurposed still camera.
For a working shooter, the appeal here is straightforward: HD capture, a fixed lens, and a hard drive doing the job of blank tapes. It's a camcorder built around one core idea, keep recording without interruption, and it does that job directly.
Who It's For
Documentary shooters and event videographers who need extended, uninterrupted recording will get the most from the 60GB hard disk drive, since it removes the constant swap-and-log routine that tape or card-based systems demand. Parents and hobbyists documenting long occasions, like recitals, ceremonies, or trips, benefit from HD recording in a fixed-lens body that's ready to point and shoot without lens changes to manage. Anyone who prefers a traditional camcorder grip and control layout over compact or mirrorless-style video rigs will find the familiar handheld form factor easy to settle into for run-and-gun shooting.
