$3,233.00
The Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH. is a prime lens for M-mount rangefinder cameras known for delivering world-class optical performance and a handling experience loved for its timeless craftsmanship. Known for exceptional sharpness, beautiful rendering, and creamy bokeh, the Summilux-M is a favorite among environmental portrait and street photographers who demand a lens design capable of yielding the finest image quality and low-light performance.
With a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, this lens excels in low-light conditions and enables shallow depth of field for stunning subject isolation. Its optical construction includes an aspherical element and high-index glass to reduce distortion and aberrations, producing images with incredible clarity, contrast, and color fidelity-even wide open. The floating element design ensures consistent sharpness across the focus range.
Built with Leica's renowned attention to detail, the Summilux-M features an all-metal body, engraved markings, and a built-in retractable lens hood. The lens is coded with a 6-bit identifier for digital M cameras, allowing the camera to recognize the lens for optimized image processing. Handcrafted in Germany, it embodies the precision and aesthetic quality that define Leica's optical heritage.
Originally introduced in 2004 the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH has been very successful and developed a well earned reputation as one of the best lenses around as Leica Camera AG's new highspeed standard lens for the Leica M System. While prior 50mm Summilux versions enjoy a reputation for excellent smoothness, notwithstanding a few modifications, they had been part of the range since 1962. The aim of the new development effort was to create a reference lens to push the technical boundaries of photography using standard focal lengths into new dimensions. To that end, the Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. delivers virtually the same outstanding performance throughout all apertures and focus settings. Whether using selective focus at close range, high-contrast available light applications or an extended depth of field to capture landscapes, the Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. handles every situation with ease. It delivers on a promise to be a genuinely universal lens. Every innovation available in lens technology - aspherical lenses, glass with anomalous partial dispersion, glass with a high refraction index and a floating element - has been combined to create a lens that sets the new standard in this focal length class.
The same optics are also available in a special "Black-chrome finish" model 11688 version introduced in 2015 with styling harkening back to earlier vintage Leica lenses. The 11688 tends to be somewhat more expensive and does not feature the built-in lens hood of the 11891.
The 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M Aspherical is an especially solid general purpose lens choice for any Leica M owner.
