The Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AIS is one of Nikon's best manual focus 50mm lenses.  It's a bright lens that offers superb image quality and sharpness.  The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture allows a large degree of control over depth of field, provides easy acess to faster shutter speeds, and makes it easy to see through viewfinders for composition & focusing.& This lens is perfect for any sort of available-light shooting as well as general photography.  When used on compatible DX format cameras the 50mm offers a field of view equivalent to a 75mm lens transforming it into an fast f/1.4 portrait lens.

The Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AIS was originally released in 1981 as a step-up from the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AIS and similar manual focus lenses.  This AIS version (Nikon USA part# 1433) replaced the previous AI model .&nps; While not quite as fast as the Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AIS it's less expensive.

The Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AIS is a terrific lens, it's the perfect classic Nikon lens for any late model Nikon manual focus body. As one of the most widely used lenses in all of photography it works well for candids, full-length portraits, landscapes, travel, and general photography.
