The Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D ED IF AF-S lens is a high end proffesional grade zoom lens. Positioned as a step up from Nikon's popular 80-200mm model #1986 this model #1993 features an all new optical design, a built-in focus motor, AF function buttons, and a larger removeable tripod mount. The optical design is superb and includes 5 ED ( Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements in an overal formula of 18 elements in 14 groups for enhanced clarity and contrast. The focusing It's Nikon's first telephoto zoom to use an AF-S (Silent Wave) Motor autofocus system. Having a focus motor built directly into the lens makes for fast autofocus performance and the Silent Wave technology is extremely quiet. The focus system also features full time manual focus override, this allows you to tweek the focus manually even when the camera is set to autofocus. Three AF Lock button are strategically placed on the lens barrel to allow carefull composition without having to change a grip and make use of continuous focus modes that much easier. A foccus range limiit switch is provided that can limit close focus to 2.5 meters to reduce the focus search distance and speed up autofocus even more. Close focus is 1.5 meters when the ful focus range is enabled.

The mechanical construction is solid as you'd expect a high end Nikon pro lens to be. Featuring a maximum aperture of f/2.8, this lens can handle lower light situations and produce the shallow depth of field desired for portraits. The 9 aperture blades are rounded and the lens renders pleasant bokeh . This lens is perfect for action lanscape, portraiture, nature, action, really any type of photography. It's a one of the best performing most versatile choices available for a Nikon telephoto especially if you don't really need VR. Available accessories include the HB-17 Lens Hood and CL-73 Case.
