The D5300 has a highly sensitive 24.1-megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor that captures vibrant colors and razor-sharp detail, even in low light.  Unlike it's predecessor (the Nikon D5200) the D5300 doesn't employ an Optical Low Pass Filter in front of the sensor meaning even more fine detail is captured than before.  The sensor and camera systems are powered by a fast Nikon EXPEED 4 image processor.  An intelligent Scene Recognition System compares shots against an onboard database for optimum exposure. The D5300's 39-point wide-area autofocus system is ultra responsive and accurate.  It keeps up with fast moving subjects so you can fire away at up to 5 fps.  3D Subject Tracking, works with the 2,016-pixel light meter to lock onto and track subjects with exceptional accuracy.  When using the face-priority AF mode in live-view the camera instantly detects and tracks up to 35 faces in a scene.

The D5300 also includes Nikon's latest innovations for creating beautiful videos with virtually no choppiness.
