17mm f/1.8 prime built for street and travel on MFT
On a Micro Four Thirds body, the 17mm focal length lands at a 34mm full-frame equivalent, close enough to a natural field of view that shooting candid or documentary work feels immediate than clinical. The f/1.8 maximum aperture gives you workable depth of field separation and enough light-gathering for low-light shooting without hauling fast zoom glass. The MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) autofocus mechanism keeps focus transitions quiet and quick, which matters if you're shooting video alongside stills.
The manual focus clutch is a physical pull-back ring that disengages AF and drops you into MF mode without touching a menu. For street photographers who want to zone focus or pre-focus a shot, that tactile engagement is faster than any button mapping. With a 46mm filter thread, the lens takes common filter sizes without expensive step-up rings. The package is compact enough to stay mounted on a small body all day without fatigue.
Who It's For
Street photographers get the most from the 34mm equivalent framing and the pull-back MF clutch for zone focusing on moving subjects. Travel photographers benefit from the compact form factor paired with the f/1.8 aperture for available-light restaurant and interior shots. Documentary and journalism shooters will find the MSC autofocus quiet enough for video sequences. MFT system builders looking for a fast prime to complement zoom kit lenses have an option here that covers the everyday focal length most standard zooms rush past.

FAQ
- What's the full-frame equivalent focal length on MFT?
- 34mm equivalent - a true standard focal length that works for street, documentary, and travel without feeling wide or tight.
- Can I use manual focus quickly without diving into menus?
- Yes. The manual focus clutch is a physical pull-back ring on the barrel that instantly disengages autofocus and locks you into MF mode.
- Is this lens fast enough for low-light shooting?
- f/1.8 gives you solid light gathering and workable subject separation in dim conditions without requiring a faster zoom or pushing ISO aggressively.
- Does the autofocus stay quiet when recording video?
- The MSC autofocus system is designed for seamless focus transitions during video capture - focus hunting and noise are minimal.
- What filter size do I need?
- 46mm - a standard size that avoids expensive step-up rings and plays nicely with most filter kits.
- How compact is this lens for travel and street work?
- Compact enough to stay mounted on a small MFT body all day without fatigue or bulk - it's built for cameras that prioritize portability.
