The Sony G 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 FE OSS (Sony part# SEL70300G) is a premium telephoto zoom for Sony Alpha E Mount mirrorless digital cameras.  It's a popular lens with a very practical zoom range that's useable for everything from portraits to sports & action.  Thanks to it's strong magnification, the 70-300mm is a great general purpose telephoto lens for travel and nature photography.

Sony 'FE' (Full frame E mount) lenses have optics that completely cover big 'full frame' 35mm format sized sensors; FE lenses are also useable on E Mount Sony cameras with APS-C sized sensors.  When used on APS-C sensor cameras, the cropped image from the 70-300mm G has a field of view equivalent to using a 105-450mm lens on 35mm format.

Sony engineered the 70-300mm G with a variable maximum aperture design to keeping it's size and weight manageable.  The maximum aperture (which varies from f/4.5 to 5.6 depending on how much you zoom) is more than adequate for daylight shooting.  With higher ISO settings and/or Sony's excellent Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization (or a tripod) the 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 G OSS is also very useable in other situations depending on available light levels and subject matter.
