The Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AIS was originally released in 1981 as a step-up from the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AIS and similar manual focus lenses.  This AIS version (Nikon USA part# 1433) replaced the previous AI model .&nps; While not quite as fast as the Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AIS it's less expensive.
