Nikon TC-20E II doubles focal length on AF-I and AF-S glass.
The TC-20E II is a 2x teleconverter built for Nikon's F-mount AF-I and AF-S lenses. Mount it between the camera body and a compatible telephoto, and the focal length doubles, a 300mm becomes a 600mm, a 500mm becomes a 1000mm, without adding a second lens to the bag. The design is specifically intended for AF-I and AF-S lenses, and Nikon's compatibility guidance confirms autofocus support within that lens family.
For shooters already invested in Nikon's AF-S telephoto lineup, this converter extends reach at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated long telephoto. It mounts directly to the Nikon F mount, slots into existing workflows without new adapters or workarounds, and fits alongside any standard F-mount body. The value proposition is straightforward: if you own compatible glass and need more reach, the TC-20E II gets you there.
Who It's For
Wildlife photographers working with AF-S super-telephotos get an immediate reach multiplier, a 500mm becomes a 1000mm, covering distant subjects without repositioning. Sports shooters who already carry a long AF-S prime can extend coverage for tighter framing on the far end of the field. Travel photographers looking to reduce kit weight without sacrificing reach will find the 2x magnification a practical trade-off against packing a second telephoto. Anyone shooting with Nikon AF-I or AF-S glass who wants more focal length from glass they already own.
